Surveys

Conducting a coating survey on a large tanker or any ship will be different from conducting a coating survey on an offshore facility, refinery, or chemical plant. The person conducting the survey should be able to plan the work in advance and have a good understanding of the logistics and tasks involved.

When surveying marine structures, the size and complexity of the structure often require breaking it down into smaller areas. This division is helpful, and sometimes necessary, to accurately assess the condition of the coating. It is important to note that different areas of the structure may have different coating systems and show varying degrees and types of coating breakdown. The level of detail in a survey can range from a simple evaluation of the coating condition (e.g., "good/fair/poor" classification) to a comprehensive investigation of coating failures.

Coating surveys are conducted for various reasons, including guarantee assessments, creating remedial painting specifications, investigating complaints or coating failures, or simply assessing the condition of the coating.

The Coating Radar App has been developed to provide concise and consistent surveys for various industries, including marine, offshore, petrochemical, and wind energy.
